like, he couldnt find a job bc he was hiv+, shelters rejected him bc he was hiv+, no one would lend a helping hand bc they were afraid reaching out to him would make them hiv+ too bc they didn’t understand how hiv worked, they assumed it was his own fault and fuck him and forget about him, and his only friends in the world who knew he was hiv+ and still loved him and supported him ferociously are all dead or scattered or past his reach, and this intelligent compassionate capable brave man just has to make due on his own, find whatever medication he can on his own, as far as the whole world is concerned they would like to forget about him and anyone like him, to the world at large he is a monster bc of his illness and just looking to turn others into monsters like him but he is not a monster, he is just sick and he hates himself and his illness more than anyone else possibly could and then FINALLY after years of barely making it on the fringe of society his old schoolteacher gives him a chance, but one of his colleagues cANNOT LET GO of being fifteen years old and maliciously cruelly dangles his knowledge of remus’ status over his head like oh i can fuck up these bare shambles of a life you’ve managed to put together at ANY MOMENT at ANY MOMENT i can ruin what you have only just barely managed to put together because i am a stunted manchild, and by the way i have an experimental medication that only i can make that will arrest and alleviate the worst of your symptoms but fuck you fuck you fuck you maybe i’ll poison you with it one day and i’ll make sure to drop as many snide sideways comments about it as i can and on the day you’re laid up and can’t move from your meds, i’ll have your ninth grade biology class read all about hiv and aids even though their lesson is supposed to be on punnet squares, and hell by the end of the year i’ll go ahead and do exactly what you feared i would do and cost you everything
